Equipped with eight years experience, tax and accounting expertise, a strategy, and a lot of optimism, on December 20, 2004 I ventured out on my own, and the firm of Doug J. Murstein, CPA was born. Ever since then, my firm has continued to develop. In the past five years, I have gone from working out of my house by myself to working from my new office with the help of several assistants.
I attribute a large part of my success to my "people first" philosophy. I try to treat all of my clients, prospective clients, contacts, and assistants like they are the most important person to the success of the firm. I answer the phone, return emails, and take the time to know my clients, both from a tax and from a personal standpoint.
Over the course of a year, I work with hundreds of different people. Each one of them has their own situations, concerns, and experiences. As such, most days I find that I am learning about something new, talking about something exciting, or getting to know someone better.
Tax returns and advice are services I provide. While my experience and approach has certainly contributed to the success of my firm, it’s the personal interactions that my work offers that have made venturing out on my own one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
